Update on Klamath River Basin CIP Organizational Structure

June 18, 2007

In 2006, KBAO reviewed and built on proposals from the Klamath Basin community to develop a proposed organizational structure for the Conservation Implementation Program (CIP). The Klamath Basin CIP Organizational Structure Working Session, that was scheduled for and postponed last December, is expected to be rescheduled at a time when all members of the Klamath River Basin community are able to gather. The meeting was postponed so as not to interfere with ongoing settlement talks related to the FERC relicensing of Klamath River dams and other activities in the basin.

KBAO is meeting with the Governor’s Offices of Oregon and Californiato brief the states on the proposed organizational structure, how science and policy would be integrated into the structure, and how to best coordinate the CIP with the states’ efforts to develop a Klamath Basin Summit. KBAO has also spoken with several watershed groups, including the Hatfield Committee, to brief them on the structure, and plans to continue the discussions with interested parties prior to the Working Session.

Copies of the proposed organizational structure are available at the CIP website, www.usbr.gov/mp/kbao/CIP/reports/index.html.
